Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about coverage, referrals, health surveillance and what happens after an assessment.
- Which areas do you cover?
- We provide services across North West England, North East England and Scotland. Appointments can be arranged on site at your premises, at our Preston clinic, remotely or via a mobile unit, depending on the nature of the assessment.
- What does occupational health involve?
- Occupational health looks at fitness for work, how a role might affect someone's health, and what adjustments or surveillance might be needed. It covers referrals, pre-placement checks, statutory medicals and health surveillance where your risk assessments require them.
- How do management referrals work?
- A manager or HR sends a referral with the questions they need answered. After the employee consents, a clinician assesses them and sends a report on fitness for work, timescales and suggested adjustments. Clinical detail is only included where it is relevant to those workplace questions.
- How do I know if we need health surveillance?
- If your risk assessments identify exposure to hazards such as noise, vibration, dust or respiratory sensitisers, there is likely a legal duty to carry out health surveillance. The programme is designed to detect early signs of work-related ill health and to confirm that your control measures remain effective.
- Do you offer drug and alcohol testing?
- This is not a service we currently provide.
